I'm going to give some back story to how this photoshoot came about: Earlier this year I got asked if I would be interested in doing a blood bath shoot. Hell yeah I was! My mind went straight to Elizabeth Bathory who allegedly bathed in the blood of virgins to stay looking youthful. I recommended a hotel for the shoot because I thought the black walls and white bath tub would look amazing with red bath water. It was the bathroom from the Harley Quinn shoot 2 years ago so I knew there'd be plenty of room to work with as well. Then two weeks before the shoot the model does it with someone else. I ask wtf and she's insistent we were doing a different themed bath shoot. We weren't and I proved it. We still did the theme but the day/night was a total nightmare, to many things went down and to be blunt I had a full meltdown and begged my cousin to take me home. I couldn't stop crying, I was hyperventilating, and I got myself a new psychologist. It was so bad I don't want to share the photos because I just want to forget that whole month happened, everything from my birthday to that moment I would take back if I could, which is sad given how much money I spent on that damned shoot. So I hit up Penny Purr to redo it. I easily spent $200 on the first attempt, attempt 2 cost me about $40. It almost feels like fate because Penny released her new album on October 1st and it's called Queen Of The Damned.
A week ago we did the shoot. I went and bought some vampire fangs, met Kylie the makeup artist at the train station and Penny grabbed us to go back to mine. I knew using a paddle pool on a balcony might be problematic but what I didn't consider was how hard it would be to empty when I fucked it all up. I added a bit of blue thinking it would make the red/pink darker and completely forgot it will turn purple because THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU MIX RED AND BLUE. Can you believe I went to art school? Me neither. So I had to empty it. Carrying a bucket of water was hell anyway on my back but I'm so dumb I was several buckets in when I remember I own a shower and I could just empty it into the shower rather than lift it to a sink continuously. I ended up dying on the couch. I just needed to be horizontal. Eventually I went back to the water and got it right but then I ran out of food colouring so we had a quick trip mid-makeup so I could get some more. Then it was raining, not hard, but enough to make it pretty cool outside. I don't think we got to shooting until 10:30pm as well to top it off. I'd tried to boil water between a pot and kettle a few times to make the pool warmer but it had no effect at all so Kelly froze but she didn't bitch much. She's good like that. She's done much worse for me!
THE BEFORE SHOT
I wanted another excuse to muck around with double exposures
I think I spent a whole 20 minutes taking photos and I love these so much more than the other ones I took. I'm really glad I redid them! In hindsight the only thing I'd do differently would be to add more water, Penny Purr might not have been as cold had she been submerged a bit more. I was in so much pain from the whole day I didn't bother bringing anything in other than my studio light and left the backdrop over the balcony railing. I didn't bring it in the next day either. The following day I got up to find out it fell on the side of the pool and half of the water drained downstairs. Now obviously that makes me a terrible neighbour but it's actually pretty funny because the last time this happened (I was trying to wash the back door and water went over the edge) she lost her mind and accused me of poisoning her plants, like lady it's water. Literal plant food. No idea if she was up to witness this one but it would have been gushing pink water and the thought of it makes me laugh. No fucks given.
